Flat Roof Openings.

A flat roof or deck is composed of several elements: the support, the roof slope, the vapor barrier, the insulation, the seal, the apertures and protection or roof covering.

The flat roof or terraced roof can only accommodate certain types of openings.

Apertures / openings for flat roofs

These are necessary to allow sunlight to enter the property and for ventilation. Apertures or openings for a flat roof or a roof terrace are typically of three types:

troof terrace openings

  • Glass blocks:
    • small cubes of glass installed in the screed when casting
    • they simply allow light in, but do not ventilate the room or allow you to see outside
  • Skylight:
    • solution mainly used in commercial and industrial buildings
    • consists of a curved window, often opaque
  • Roof window: this is the same as roof windows for sloping roofs, the only difference is that the very low slope is compensated by a sloping support, so that water does not remain on the window.
