A solar air conditioning system is a combination of a reversible heat pump and solar panels. The solar panels power a conventional air or gas air conditioning system, effectively replacing electricity, when natural sunlight is adequate. It is also possible to provide hot water using such a system.
Advantages of solar air conditioning
It operates using free energy provided by the sun. It can dramatically reduce energy (gas and electric) bills. Energy rebates or tax credits may be available through the Energy Star incentive program.
Disadvantages of solar air conditioning
The initial installation can be more expensive than conventional air conditioning systems, however, the long term running costs are much less.
