Air Conditioning Noise

Air conditioning without noise is possible. Noise levels of air conditioning units have been a legitimate concern as older units tended to be very noisy.

Recent technology has meant noise from air conditioning units has been dramatically reduced. If you are sensitive to noise, choose an air conditioner with the following characteristics:

  • noise rating less than 30 decibels (typical level of background noise in a public library).
  • split air conditoner which is composed of two units: an inner and an outer, which reduces noise.
  • good air conditioners when operating produce less than 30 decibels noise, in some cases as little as 19dB.
  • a silent mode option for night time use is available on many modern units.
