Air Conditioning Installation
Note: An improperly installed air conditioning system can cause cold drafts.
How to install air conditioning?
The installation of air conditioning depends on the type of air conditioner chosen. However, in all cases air conditioning units should:
- Be of the correct dimension for the area to be cooled and the number of people typically in the area. (For more information see: power calculation).
- Be located away from heat sources to ensure proper functioning.
- Not blow directly onto the people, for example, in front of a sofa, a bed, etc.
- Not emit air below a temperature of 20°C.
- Not emit air that is so cold as to cause colds or headaches.
- Avoid any risk of thermal shock, when the temperature difference is more than 8°C between the inside and outside.
- Be installed in a location with sufficient open space so as not to hinder the flow of air.
Installing a split air conditioning system
A split air conditioning arrangement requires additional installation precautions, especially related to the outdoor unit, and includes the need for:
- Provision of a condenser drain.
- Avoiding installation near windows of the rooms to be cooled.
- Protection from the sun and prevailing winds.
For more information see: split air conditioning
In order to install an effective air conditioning system and ensure maximum operational efficiency it is best to use the services of a professional installer who will be able to calculate the power required for a comfortable environment based on the pertinent factors.
Installing Air Conditioning
There are certain aspects of heating and ventilation installations which are regulated by the EPA in the USA. In case of air conditioning especially, there are various energy efficiency targets and restrictions on the use of refrigerants. As more environmentally friendly alternatives become available and energy consumption targets have to be met by future dates, it is important that any installation complies with such requirements.
Advantages of using a qualified and experienced HVAC contractor
- Installation of an adequate and efficient air conditioning system
- Avoid paying more than necessary in running costs through effective design
- Experience of environmental factors by state which need to be considered for best performance
- Reduction of energy consumption
- Safety of installation
Contracting an unlicensed individual to carry out air conditioning installation, repair or maintenance may be hazardous. Many states require contractors or individuals carrying out such work to be licensed and bonded. HVAC professionals are required to keep up to date with current and pending legislation regarding air conditioning and refrigeration.
